Depth-camera mapping + Rock Picker app

Scan the field.
Pick every rock.
Never drive it blind again.

FarmDefender maps every rock in your field as you drive. Then FarmIQ takes over — navigate your crew directly to each rock, mark it picked, watch it disappear from the list. Scan to done. All in one loop.

Drive it once. Know where they are.

A stereo depth camera mounted on the front of a tractor, truck, or scout vehicle continuously measures the geometry of the field ahead. Objects that rise above the soil — rocks, debris — get logged with size, position, and a confidence score.

Every detection feeds straight into FarmIQ. From there you have the full picture:

  • Navigate your rock picker directly to each rock — no hunting, no guessing
  • Mark the immovable ones so they never get hit
  • Track changes between passes — what got picked, what's new
  • Plan field operations around known obstacles

Why depth cameras, not 2D vision

A flat RGB image can't tell a rock from a shadow, a dark patch of soil, or a clump of residue. Stereo depth measures actual 3D shape — anything tall enough to matter shows up, anything flat doesn't. Fewer false positives, fewer missed rocks.

It also runs in conditions where regular cameras fail: low light, harsh shadows, heavy crop residue.

The Rock Picker app

After a field scan, open FarmIQ on any phone or tablet. You get a live map of every detected rock — tap one, get turn-by-turn navigation straight to it. Pick the rock, hit Picked. It's gone from the list. Move to the next one. When the list is empty, the field is clear.

1
Drive the field
Depth cameras map every rock as you move — one pass covers the whole field.
2
Open the app
Every rock appears as a pin on a live field map. Tap one — the app routes you straight there.
3
Pick it
Hit Picked. It's gone from the list — for everyone on the crew, instantly.
4
Field is clear
Empty list means done. Rock history persists for future seasons — in FarmIQ.

Navigate to each rock

The app shows every rock as a pin on a live map. Tap any pin and it routes you straight there — no hunting, no doubling back, no missed corners. Work down the list in whatever order makes sense.

Picked — and it's gone

One button removes a rock from the map. No paper list, no radio calls, no re-driving the field to verify. The record stays — you can see what was picked, by whom, and when.

Whole crew, same map

Every device on the crew sees the same live map updating in real time. When someone marks a rock picked, it disappears for everyone. Nobody works a rock that's already done.

The hardware: FD-84D depth unit

The FD-84D is the depth-camera unit behind rock detection — stereo vision, georeferencing, and onboard processing in a single mountable enclosure. It bolts on the front of a tractor, seeder, scout truck, or implement; PoE power means one cable to the cab, no specialized brackets.

  • Stereo depth + RGB in a weather-resistant enclosure
  • On-board AI inference — no cloud, works with zero cell signal
  • PoE single-cable power and data
  • Day and night operation (with field lights at night)
  • RTK GPS via FarmLink

Mount it anywhere

The FD-84D depth-camera unit bolts on the front of a tractor, seeder, scout truck, or implement. No specialized mounting required. Power over Ethernet (PoE) — one cable to the cab.

Live crew map in FarmIQ

Every rock gets a coordinate, a size estimate, and a timestamp — synced to FarmIQ instantly. The whole crew sees the same map on their phones, updating as picks are logged. Rocks you flag as immovable stay on the map permanently as obstacles.

Season over season

Rock maps persist in FarmIQ between seasons. Compare what came back after tillage, what you've cleared, what's still sitting. Your field knowledge compounds — not just for rock picking, but for routing seeders and planters around permanent obstacles.

Where this is in 2026

The depth-camera rock system and Rock Picker app are in active field deployment this season. We're dialing in size-threshold tuning and Rock Picker workflows alongside the first customers running it — nobody else has this end-to-end loop built.

Rocky operation? We want to hear from you. Early customers get hands-on tuning support directly from the engineering team.
